Chapter Thirteen
Kiera
Ethan pulled up as the nurse exited the door of the hospital. She was an older lady that most likely worked here for years. Ethan tried to get her to let him push the chair to the curb and she wasn’t having it. She claimed that it was her job to get me into the car from the wheelchair and only then would she allow him to take me home. It was quite funny watching him argue with her about who would be helping me, but it wasn’t getting me out of this hospital any faster.
He won the argument of course by totally disregarding what she said lifting me from the chair and carrying me the remainder of the way to my seat since she wouldn’t let him have his way. After crying in the bathroom, I felt the cold seep away the moment he held me in his arms again. His cologne from earlier was still extremely strong and it smelled incredible as it wrapped itself around me. It was very relaxing being this close to him. As he sat me in the passenger seat, I held back a whimper when I lost the contact. Once I was safely buckled in the car, he kissed my head and shut the door turning to the nurse saying something that made her smile at him affectionately.
As we pulled out of the loading area, I leaned my head against the glass watching my city pass by in a blur. This was once my refuge from a terrible past but tonight it had a foreboding feeling that lingered in the shadows. An uneasy feeling rose in my stomach as I leaned into the cold surface of the window, it helped ease the nauseous feeling slightly. Traffic was light near the University at this time of night which was a good thing for us, I was ready to get home. Reaching into the brown bag the nurse gave us, I found the pain medication and took one as the cut on my head started to throb.
“Am I driving too fast for you? I can slow down if needed,” he asked eying the bottle in my hands. Honestly, I don’t think I have ever had a guy fuss over me this much except my daddy and he didn’t count. Since moving here, I have been on my own without anyone to worry about me except my mother. It was a different feeling than I am used to having. That made me feel like a burden, I could take care of myself.
“No, you’re perfectly fine Ethan, stop worrying so much about me. The medication the doctor gave me will help with my headache and nausea. Let’s just get back to my house so we can rest,” I said with a hint of annoyance in my voice. It was close to midnight by the time the doctor discharged me from the hospital and the night was nowhere near over, we still had to get my keys and meet the guys.
